You have to roll up your sleeves and be a stonecutter before you become a sculptor – command of craft precedes art.
How genres are related
Genres of music are lexicological terms (words) used to describe a united movement in the history of music. Each genre of music is in a system of weighted relations with other genres. By placing the cursor on a given style out of the 329 available, the diagram instantly displays all the music genres that the selected genre is influenced by and all the ones that it influences.
Audio analysis of a file
Musimap retrieves information in real-time based on the audio analysis of a given uploaded audio file (format accepted: .aiff, .flac, .wav, .mp3). The information reflects several parameters, including moods.
Nuance of moods
Musimap defined 6 main families of moods, divided each in 3 sub-families, which in turn are separated into 10 to 30 detailed moods, thus reaching a total of 300 nuanced moods. An approximate 3000 aliases (i.e. semantic words) are then associated to the nuanced moods, this way giving shape to the whole palette of human emotions.
Lexicology of a track
In Musimap’s global music catalogue, each track is positioned within a multi-layered system of crossed influences: the graph visualizes all ‘nodes’ (e.g., keywords, properties, moods and genres) associated to the particular title: the larger a node displays the greater the influence of the semantic word to the track. On this note, Musimap’s overall lexicology counts over 11 thousand describers.
Music search engine
The interface allows to search by song-based soundalikes (i.e., playlist generation based on similarity) or via advanced search (by genre, mood, voice type, key, rhythmic mood, lyrics, instrumentation, keyword, etc.).
The interface visualizes all tags Musimap retrieves on tracks (and playlists), albums or artists. For instance, the token henjzcrvycmo presents the information Musimap gathers on Barack Obama’s official 2016 playlist, and classifies it into categories: e.g., for each artist in the playlist, Musimap’s lists information on identity, discography, similar artists, influential artists, situations, etc.).
The interface exemplifies how Musimap can generate a psych-emotional profile based on a selection of an individual’s 12 favorite tracks only. Here, Musimap weights each of the selected track’s music properties to present both a Mood and Genre mix as well as a multi-faceted personality portrait structured in sentences. The scope of the profile is magnified with accessing users’ libraries, playlists, behavioral and contextual data. The profile allows to match units (e.g., users, playlists, brands, etc.) with extensive application in the social media and advertising space.
Similarities between artists
The interface shows Musimap’s potential to generate music recommendation and discovery based on similarity and influences between artists. By selecting a specific artist, the interface lists similar artists, artists that have influenced the seed artist and those artists that the seed artist in turn influenced.
